What is NILS?
The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) provides individuals and families on low incomes with access to safe, fair and affordable credit. NILS is offered by local community organisations in Australia, including DIVRS. We can assist people to apply for loans of up to $1500 for essential goods and services such as white goods, car maintenance and medical procedures.
To be eligible for a loan you must:
Hold a current health care card or be able to demonstrate that you live on a low income
Have resided at your current address for at least three months (some exceptions apply)
Have a suitable need
Have the financial ability to repay the loan
Repayments are made fortnightly over 12 months at an affordable amount. Repayments can be made using Centrepay - a free voluntary bill paying service which makes deductions from your Centrelink payments.
Loans cannot be used for cash, bond, rent arrears, debt consolidation, holidays or bills.
If you work for an organisation that assists families and individuals on low incomes, you are welcome to make contact, request pamphlets and/or organise an information session.
