Donate to our Food Sharing Program

The DIVRS Food Sharing Program supports people in the Darebin community with access to food and essential items in a warm and welcoming environment.

DIVRS aims to provide nutritious and culturally appropriate food. We share food with about 500 people each week. Sharing food starts a conversation with people about what’s happening in their lives and how we can help – we provide holistic wrap-around support through our Community Support and other programs.

Hold a Food Drive

Running a Food Drive is a great way to bring the community together to help us support people experiencing food insecurity. You can run it as an individual, community group, business or school.

How to Run a Food Drive

When
Decide on a start and finish date. The shorter the time span for your food drive, the easier it will be to keep people engaged.

Where
Choose a drop-off location for the food. Choose a drop-off location that is easy to access and highly visible.

If you are holding a drive within your local neighbourhood, a protected front porch in a dog-free front yard can be used as a contactless ‘any time’ donation point. If your food drive is at a school, the office or community centre is a good choice.

Promote Your Food Drive
We have resources to help you promote and host your food drive, including:

  • Flyers and social media tiles to promote your food drive

  • Information about the impact of your donations

  • A poster with a list of most-needed food and other items to donate

  • DIVRS can also provide boxes for you to collect and fill with your food donations

Bring us your donation
You can bring your food drive donations to our office at 285 High Street, Preston. Please contact the Food Sharing Program Leader first, so we know how much food to expect and can arrange a drop off time. Chloe@divrs.org.au
