Volunteers Matter

Your time, skills and expertise are valuable. It doesn’t matter if you are the boss of a big business or just the boss of yourself.

You might be looking to get back into the workforce and want to take those first non-scary steps.

You know being with people is healthy for your heart, mind and your body.

Volunteers power DIVRS. People just like you are here with us today making a difference to their own lives and to other people. They are getting things done through a wide range of roles like these:

  • Food rescue - picking and packing food, to reduce waste and to share with community experiencing food insecurity

  • Learn to drive - helping young drivers get their P-plates

  • Community support - connecting people to information and support for all sorts of things that happen in our lives

  • Gardening - getting your hands in the dirt, growing food and sharing knowledge about productive gardens

  • Food packages - putting supplies together for people with tight budgets

  • Deliveries and pickups - gathering supplies and delivering food parcels

  • Financial help - health checks and applying for grants and loans to pay for bills and essential items

  • Admin - keeping the wheels turning inside the DIVRS office.

We could not exist without you. Start your volunteer journey with us today!

RUNS ON THE BOARD

We have more than 100 volunteers across our programs and are always looking for more people to come on board.

And they have kicked some impressive goals:

ALL SHAPES AND SIZES

It’s important that the volunteering you do is right for you. Here are some wise words from some of our volunteers that might help you as you think about what kind of volunteer work you want to do.

  • Make sure the volunteering you choose to do matches your own interests and skills.

  • If the volunteering opportunity you try is not right for you, then try something else.

  • Be clear about your capacity as a volunteer – how much and how often you can manage.

  • Try to get a clear understanding of what will be expected of you before you start.

If you have been thinking about giving volunteering  a go, we would love to hear from you. Give us a call and have a chat about what you might like to achieve with DIVRS.
