Emergency Relief Volunteers

The Emergency Relief program and our Community Support program help Darebin residents with all sorts of matters.

As a volunteer you will be part of the team that supports people who live in your street, your neighbourhood. And you will be building your own skills - to find work or to just be happy.

Food Services

The Food Services team supports our Emergency Relief program by sourcing, packing and sharing food with our community.

A day at DIVRS looks like this:

  • Sorting fresh food from food rescue organisations, community donations and our growing sites

  • Packing pantry and fresh food parcels

  • Restocking our pantry and fresh food spaces

  • Helping share food at our Preston site and other community centres. You will meet some of the community members we share food with

  • Helping with daily set-up and pack down

  • We work as a team each day to make sure we get these tasks completed, usually with enough time to sit back and have a cuppa together mid-morning

SPECIAL SKILLS VALUED

If you have an interest in nutrition, health and wellbeing, then ask about our nutrition team. We know you can help us and the people we serve to focus on eating well with good, healthy food.

If you can drive a van, you may be interested in volunteering as a Food Relief driver. You get to drive our DIVRS van around Darebin picking up supplies and delivering parcels to the community.

special skills welcome

Several of our volunteers work in an area of professional expertise and volunteer a few hours of their time each month. If you are in business or work in a professional role, we would love to hear from you to see if we can find a specialist role in DIVRS.

We might not even know how much we need you, until we hear from you!

And DIVRS provides extra training so we can guide you to provide the services that are most useful to those we work with.
