Free Tax Help

FREE TAX HELP is open for 2023.

CALL US TO BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT

Tax is tricky. Lots of forms and documents, everything on computer. The DIVRS Tax Help Program is free to Centrelink recipients, people who earn less than $60,000 and many low income earners who live in the Darebin area.

If you are on Centrelink payments or other benefits, wait until you have received your yearly Payment Summary.

Then give us a call to see if we can help sort our your tax dramas. We will take some details, including ID (identification) like a driver’s licence, pension card or Medicare card. You’ll need a MyGov account - you can do that here - or we can help you get one. And we can then take the next steps together.

Our Tax Help Workers are accredited by the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Free Financial Health Check

Every dollar counts, and a sick bank balance needs a free Financial Health Check.

So let’s sit down and talk about what effect money shortages are having on your own health, and work together to lower the stress.

We might be able to find a few clever shortcuts to ease the squeeze. These might include:

  • Helping you apply for affordable bill payment plans

  • Government payments you might not know are available

  • Low interest loans

The great news is that many people who live in your own neighbourhood are using a free DIVRS Financial Health Check to get ahead.

Good news stories

DARYL’S STORY

Like many of us, Daryl lost his job during the second COVID lockdown, and the stress was piling up on top of him. He heard about DIVRS and phoned the Emergency Relief team. In a private meeting, Daryl told a team member about how his mental health was really feel the pressures of living alone with no job. Through DIVRS he organised regular food, a no-interest loan and someone to listen. Daryl’s mental health improved, and with support from DIVRS he was able to look for work. Great news - Daryl is now back in a job and back on his feet.

JEMMA’s STORY

Jemma was studying to increase her skills and, like most students, was feeling exhausted by money problems. This was making it even harder to study. She contacted DIVRS with a simple phone call and left her contact details. A Community Service Worker phoned back and listened to Jemma’s story. Jemma was soon receiving fortnightly food parcels and referrals to services that worked with her to untangle her problems. She also decided to have a DIVRS Financial Health Check. Great news - Jemma finished her studies and, because she is now better with budgeting, gets food parcels much less often.
